Midori Curtis’ Improvization will open on August 4. Note that you may not have
received your August Monterey News by then, so please put it on your calendar now!
“Like a single melody being played by different instruments,” the artist explains,
Midori Curtis uses various printmaking processes to create harmony between
juxtaposed cultures and aesthetics. She will speak about her work at 5 p.m. on August
4, and a reception will follow the Artist’s Talk.
Curtis is a master printmaker who uses various printmaking processes to create harmony
between juxtaposed cultures and aesthetics. This exhibit features monoprints and woodblock prints.
The artist is widely exhibited and her work is in collections of prominent museums, including the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. We are thrilled that she is willing to talk about her work
and her processes, and hope you will attend – and ask her questions. Thanks to the Massachusetts
and Monterey Cultural Councils for supporting our Artists’ Talks.
We are delighted that Sarah Varney, Monterey resident and prominent field reporter for
NPR, PBS, and other outlets, will join Curtis for this talk – as interviewer and prompter. Although
Varney’s main focus is on health care issues she took on the task of interviewing Monterey artists for
the 175 th Monterey Anniversary Book so she is well-prepared for this occasion.
